The Union Cupboard on Wednesday permitted a Rs. 1.64 lakh crore bundle for the revival of state-owned telecom agency BSNL, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw mentioned.

The bundle has three parts – to enhance providers, de-stress stability sheet, and growth of fibre community.

Briefing reporters on the choice taken by the Union Cupboard, he mentioned the federal government will make administrative allocation of spectrum BSNL wants to supply 4G providers.

To de-stress the stability sheet, Rs. 33,000 crore statutory dues can be transformed into fairness and an identical quantity of financial institution loans can be repaid by the problem of low-interest bonds.

Additionally, BBNL can be merged with BSNL, he added.

The transfer goals at serving to the loss-making agency compete higher with personal rivals.

The agency has struggled to win prospects as Reliance Industries’ telecoms arm Jio and rivals Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Concept have rolled out 4G providers and aggressively lower knowledge costs.
